How a hand is scored
Every card carries a point value, and only the final digit of a hand's total counts. Aces are worth one. Cards two through nine are worth their printed number. Tens and all court cards — jack, queen, king — are worth zero.
Add the cards together and drop the tens digit. A seven and a six total thirteen, which scores as three. A nine and a king total nine, which scores as nine, the best hand in the game. The side closer to nine takes the round; equal totals are a tie.
The third card, as we deal it
Full-scale baccarat uses a long table of drawing conditions. The Ninth Table runs a simplified rule, applied identically to both hands so that neither side gains an edge from it:
- If either hand totals 8 or 9 after two cards, that is a natural. Both hands stand and the round resolves immediately.
- Otherwise, any hand totalling 5 or less draws exactly one more card. Player draws first, then Banker.
- Any hand totalling 6 or 7 stands. No hand ever receives a fourth card.
Bets and payouts
| Bet | Wins when | Pays | On a 100-coin stake |
|---|---|---|---|
| Player | The Player hand is closer to nine | 1 : 1 | 100 coins won, stake returned |
| Banker | The Banker hand is closer to nine | 0.95 : 1 | 95 coins won, stake returned — the shortfall is the traditional five-percent commission |
| Tie | Both hands finish on the same total | 8 : 1 | 800 coins won, stake returned |
A tie when you are sitting on Player or Banker is a push: your stake comes straight back and nothing is won or lost. A tie when you are on Tie pays the full eight to one.
Virtual coins, and only that. The balance shown above is generated by your browser and lives only in the open page. It cannot be bought, sold, gifted, withdrawn, or converted into money, goods, or entry to anything. Reloading the page returns it to its starting figure, and the reset control does the same at any time.
The Ninth Table is for players aged 18 and over. It is a social game offered for entertainment purposes only, involves no real-money wagering, and offers no opportunity to win real money or prizes.
